Pros

  • Solid build
  • Sharp screen
  • Fast performance
  • Excellent battery life

Cons

  • No significant upgrade over its predecessor
  • Android competitors cost less

Bottom Line

If you can’t afford the latest Apple tablet, the 2014 iPad Mini 3 still offers great value for the money, featuring innovations like Retina display and TouchID it packs more than enough power for day to day use.

The iPad Mini 3 MGYE2LL/A is a bestselling 2014 7.9-inch tablet that received positive reviews for its solid build, sharp screen, fast performance, excellent battery life and new TouchID feature. However, it lacks any significant upgrades over its predecessor and it’s priced slightly over competing mid-range Android tablets. If you have the old iPad 2 then there aren’t many reasons to upgrade but if you’re buying one for the first time or switching from an Android tablet, the Mini 3 MGYE2LL/A is a compelling choice thanks to its top class design and performance.

One of last year's best, the iPad Mini 3 is still a compelling choice despite the lack of upgrades. However, the nearly identical and significantly cheaper iPad Mini 2 is a smarter buy.

The Apple iPad mini 3 is a superb small-screen tablet, but you can get essentially the same experience from its predecessor for $100 less.

This is last year's tablet with Touch ID and a new colour - as we don't know how quickly Apple Pay is going to spread, it's hard to find a reason to recommend this tablet.
