The 2017 Fire 7 (7th generation) tablet has received positive reviews for its exceptional value, sturdy build quality, decent performance for the price, and its Alexa capabilities. However, users were not impressed with its battery life and the fact that it charges incredibly slowly. The screen resolution of 600p received some flak, and the rear and front camera quality could be better. Lastly, users thought that Amazon Silk, which is the Fire HD 7’s web browser, is less flexible than Chrome, inhibiting web browsing a bit. Considering the above mentioned drawbacks, at this price point the 2017 Fire 7 is still one of the best 7-inch budget tablets currently available.

Thankfully, this year’s minor update to the Amazon Fire 7 remains worlds apart from many of the uber-cheap tablets you might impulse buy at a supermarket with your morning cornflakes. Not a great deal has changed from the previous model – the design is the same, as is general performance, save for a small upgrade to the display in terms of clarity but, sadly, not resolution.

Amazon is still in a $50/£50 tablet league of its own with the Fire 7 (2017), but the low-res display is now arguably a cut too far for a modern media-focused device.
